OCTOBER/NOVEMBER SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

A FAMILY OUTING

LOCATED IN THE HEART OF THE DORDOGNE VALLEY, NEAR SARLAT & ROCAMADOUR, THE GOUFFRE DE PADIRAC IS THE FIRST UNDERGROUND NATURAL HERITAGE SITE IN FRANCE AND ONE OF EUROPE'S GREATEST GEOLOGICAL CURIOSITIES. DISCOVERED IN 1889 BY ÉDOUARD-ALFRED MARTEL, IT IS THE 3RD MOST VISITED SITE IN OCCITANIE AFTER THE CASTLE & THE RAMPARTS OF THE CITY OF CARCASSONNE AND THE GARD BRIDGE.

Before winter closure, the Gouffre de Padirac, celebrating in 2019 the 130th anniversary of its discover, offers a final opportunity to come and enjoy a wonderful visit during these school holidays and the exceptional exhibition «Robert Doisneau at the Gouffre de Padirac» ending with the 2019 season, until November, 3 incl.

This exhibition, with its original scenography, was designed in close colaboration with Atelier Robert Doisneau, which was established by Annette Doisneau et Francine Deroudille, the photographer's daughters ; and with Laurence Fontaine, architect-scenographer for the Centre Pompidou and Atelier Robert Doisneau, for which she designs many exhibitions.

The «Robert Doisneau at the Gouffre de Padirac» exhibition is part of the cultural and festive programme launched in 2012 with the exhibition by the artist-sculptor Isabelle Thiltgès and various musical performances including those by Choeur Mikrokosmos in 2015 & 2018.
Laetitia de Ménibus-Gravier, President and Managing Director of the Gouffre de Padirac and great-granddaughter of the site-discoverer's patron, is constantly concerned over highlighting the cultural heritage of this underground natural monument.
